Women and Children Repression Repeal Tribunal in Rajshahi has sent a Bangladesh Bank official to jail for allegedly beating and torturing his wife. It is learnt, Momtaz Begum, Sonali Bank official in Rajshahi filed a case against her husband Emdadul Haque, Deputy Director (savings) of Bangladesh Bank in Rajshahi and the court ordered to send him to jail by cancelling his ad-interim bail on Wednesday last.
According to sources, on April-20 in 1989 Emdaul was married to Momtaz Begum. Momtaz complained, since after the marriage, Emdadul has been demanding dowry from Momtaz. He also often tortured her to take her salary. By this time, Momtaz gave birth to two children. Thinking about the welfare of the children, Momtaz continued to stay with her husband for 30-year.
In 2009, Momtaz purchased a house at Chhoto Bongram area of the city with her own earned money. After purchasing of the house, Emdad increased torture on her demanding to hand over the house to his name. Even after that Emdad tried to oust his wife and children from the house and employed local terrorists against his wife and children. Considering her and her children's safety, she filed a case with Women and Child Repression Repeal Tribunal-1, Rajshahi, on May 28 this year. On Wednesday last two children of Emdad gave deposition in the court accusing their father when the court cancelled ad-interim bail of Emdad and ordered to send him to Jail hajat.
