Bashundhara Kings triumph fourth BPL title in a row

Bashundhara Kings wrote their name in the history book after triumphing the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football title fourth time in a row defeating Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra by 6-4 on Friday.

Held at their home venue Bashuindhara Sports Complex, in the goal-galore match Kings demonstrated the best possible way to notch up the championship of the Bangladesh Premier League for successive four times, since their appearance in the top tire of the country’s football league. 

Kings’ fourth BPL triumph moved them to the level with Abahani Limited, Dhaka and Mohammedan Sporting Club, who won hat-trick championship. Only Abahani, with six titles have lifted the trophy more often but Bashundhara Kings made the history winning fourth times at their first appearance. 

Four goals by Dorielton and one each from Robson Robinho and Morsalin wrapped up the three points for the Kings against SK Russel at the Kings’ Arena to win the League Championship three match to play.   

The victory was the result of a great first half of the match of the Kings, with Dorielton, who scored four goals, was the star of the show. No sooner had the game begun than Dorielton fired home their first move after a cross from Robson Robinho on sixth minute. 

It didn't take Zulfikar Ali Minto’s men much longer to score the equalizer with opening their account. On 20 minutes, they started the move down the right and Keneth who brought the ball after beating his marker with an excellent dribbling, set a great cross-field pass inside the area for Charlse Didier. But Didier missed to shot and the ball went to unmarked Sujon Biswas in an open space, who did not miss to slam home (1-1. 

But Dipok Roy, the danger man of Russel stunned the Kings scoring a beautiful goal from penalty-arch to take lead when the ball came to his way after defender failing to clear and Dipok’s right footer went into top corner of the net beating Zico on 38th minute (2-1).       

However, Kings trailing by 1-2 turned into more danger and scored goals inside two minutes in the first half inury period to lead by 3-2.

Morsalin, who displayed some of his skills set a cross inside the area for Robson, who just beat the keeper Ashraful Rana with a placing shot (2-2) and a minute later Morsalin himesel scored an excellent goal with a long range shot (3-2).   

The story of the second half was also a galore 45 minutes when Bashundhara struck three goals and Russel scored two more and the matche ended on 6-4.  

Dorielton, who made his league tally 18, scored his second and the fourth for the team on 50th minute and completed the hat-trick on 65th minute when his fellow Brazilian Robinho assisted both the times (5-2).

Russel reduced anther one on 68th minute through Keneth when dribbled past Bisawnath and another amarker inside the box before to beat Zico (3-5).

Dorielton completed the route with scoring his fourth and sixth for the Kings and this time it was alos a set piece from Robson (6-3).

Russel, who fought to the end and left no spaces without challenge scored another one through Keneth converted a penalty on 88th minute to make the tally (4-6). 

In the day’s another high voltage match Mohammedan Sporting Club shared points after a 1-1 draw with Abahani Limited (Dhaka) at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datt Stadium, Cumilla and Chittagong Abahani Limited had a solitary goal win against Uttara FC at the Bir Srehtha Motiur Rahman Stadium, Munshiganj.
