Commercial banks will remain open from 10 am to 1.30 pm from Sunday as Bangladesh Bank (BB) has instructed all banks to operate on a limited scale during the strict lockdown.
However, from July 25 to August 05, all bank authorities are allowed to conduct internal official activities until 3 pm.
Bangladesh Bank issued a circular on July 13 to keep banking services running amid the strictest restrictions. It said a limited range of banking activities would be conducted during the restrictions, except on weekends.
The 'strictest' restrictions to curb coronavirus infection started on Friday morning. After the Eid holiday, the banks will keep the branches open as the customers demand it to continue their banking activities.
During the period, the banks will be able to keep the required number of branches open, including the emergency departments at the banks’ head offices, with limited manpower by strictly following all types of health instructions including wearing masks.
During the restriction, services like deposit/withdrawal by cash/check, issue and acceptance of demand draft / pay-order, payment of foreign remittances, distribution of allowances/grants for various social programs of the government etc will be available in all commercial banks, according to a BB press release.
Apart from this, transfer of money among different branches of the same bank and different accounts of the same branch, receipt of treasury invoices, all customers of the bank with online facilities and customers of open branches of non-bank banks are covered under different payment systems/clearing system operated by Bangladesh Bank.
On the other hand, customers will get other transaction facilities and emergency foreign transaction-related services.
The central bank has also been instructed to keep card transaction and internet banking services running at all times. ATM booths should be provided with adequate notes and round-the-clock service, according to the BB.
Necessary arrangements have to be made for the officers and employees of the bank to attend the offices during the restrictions.
