Banglalink SDG Hackathon “Code for a Cause” 2.0 held

The second edition of Banglalink SDG Hackathon “Code for a Cause”, an initiative aimed at encouraging young problem solvers to come up with innovative solutions to SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) challenges, was held at Tiger’s Den the head office of  Banglalink in the capital. 

Following an intense competition among participating teams for 24 hours, the winners of the hackathon were officially announced by Banglalink. Taimur Rahman, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer, Banglalink, Muniruzzaman Sheikh, Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, Banglalink and other high officials of the organisation were present at the event.  

Interested candidates participated in Banglalink SDG Hackathon through online submissions. Based on the merits of their submitted ideas, a total of 25 teams, consisting of 3 members each, were selected and invited to the hackathon to devise and pitch digital ideas on solving SDG problems related to decent work, quality education, climate action and gender equality. Team Quirkybits, Team BeNotX and Team Arial X were announced as the top three teams for presenting their innovative digital ideas on chatbot-based legal services for women, digital learning for kids and drone-based planting systems, respectively. 

Taimur Rahman, Chief Corporate & Regulatory Affairs Officer, Banglalink said, “We are really delighted to organise the second edition of this programme, which was launched with a view to giving young problems solvers an opportunity to solve crucial socio-economic problems digitally focusing on a few SDG Goals. The innovative digital ideas devised by the participants at the hackathon reflect their new approaches to addressing those problems.

We will strive to empower such promising Bangladeshi youngsters as we believe that their fresh ideas can contribute significantly to our endeavour to drive socio-economic progress through digital initiatives.” The inaugural edition of Banglalink SDG Hackathon also received overwhelming responses from participants last year.
