We extend our heartiest greetings and warm felicitations to the Bangladesh Women’s Football team for winning the maiden title of the SAFF Women’s Championship beating Nepal by 3-1 goals in the final. We are pleased to see that our girls showed the maturity to play the match in a planned way.

We have dreamed of it for years and it finally came true on Monday. The win was a long overdue for the women’s football team. Our girls’ achievement has brought smiles to the faces of country’s people. With this win, Bangladesh has also broken five time SAFF champion India’s one-sided dominance in the championship who were knocked out early by host Nepal in the semifinal.

This victory will boost the confidence of players and coaches of the women’s national football team. Our women’s football team won all the awards of 6th edition of SAFF Women’s Championship. Goal-machine Sabina Khatun was named the most valuable player of the tournament. Sabina, who scored two hat-tricks -- first against Pakistan in the group stage and the second one against Bhutan in the first semifinal - also received the highest scorer award. She netted a total of eight goals in the tournament. Bangladesh custodian Rupna Chakma, who conceded only a lone goal throughout the tournament, was given the best goalkeeper award for her impressive performance under the bar.

We hope that the winning

 streak of the Bangladesh women’s

football team would be

continued in future

Bangladesh earlier blanked the Maldives by 3-0 in their group opening match and thrashed Pakistan 6-0 in their second match and defeated defending champions India by 3-0 goals to booked their spot of semifinal as the group A champions. The girls in red and green confirmed their spot of semifinal after crushing Bhutan by 8-0 goals in the first semifinal.

Bangladesh received the fair play trophy award of the tournament. So, there are plenty of plus points for every member, coaches and officials of the team as they received the fair play trophy award alongside SAFF Women’s Championship winner. All these victories in the tournament have given Bangladesh a dominating and strong position, helping the football team hold a good position in the international football rankings in coming days.

All now hope that Bangladesh women’s football team will soon be able to participate in the women’s football world cup. We believe that all the members of women’s football team are confident now and they are dedicated to the football alongside physical fitness. We hope that the winning streak of the Bangladesh women’s football team would be continued in future.
