Bangladesh suffer first defeat to Sri Lanka

Bangladesh Men’s cricket team (U-23) suffered their first defeat against Sri Lanka (U-23) in the ongoing 13th South Asian Games (SA Games) on Sunday in Nepal, reports agencies.

Before heading to this game, Bangladesh won three consecutive games respectively against Maldives, Bhutan and Nepal. But in the last game before the final, Saif Hassan-led Bangladesh suffered their first defeat.

Sri Lanka won the toss and sent Bangladesh to bat first. Bangladesh posted a moderate total of 150 runs for six wickets in 20 overs.

Mohammad Naim and Saif opened the innings but failed to lay down a solid foundation. Naim scored only six while Saif was dismissed for four. Bangladesh lost the third wicket when Afif Hossain scored only six runs.

However, in the fourth wicket stand, Mahidul Islam Ankon and Yasir Ali added 80 runs with Ankon scoring 44 and Yasir Ali added 51.

Bangladesh ended on 150 for six in 20 overs. Asitha Fernando bagged two wickets for Sri Lanka while Kavishka Anjula, Jehan Daniel and Shammu Ashan took one wicket each.

In reply, Sri Lanka chased down the target of 151 in 16.4 overs. Pathum Nissanka (67*) and Lasith Croospulle (73*) guided them to victory putting up a partnership of 134 runs.

Both the teams will take on each other in the final again on December 9.
