Bangladesh reports highest recoveries

The recovery rate from the pandemic coronavirus went up in Bangladesh with the new infections as the country entered the 19th week of Covid-19 outbreak on Sunday.

Additional director general for Health Prof Nasima Sultana said, at the daily briefing, the recovery rate now stood at 50.93 percent of the total 183,795 patients including the latest 2,666 cases detected in the last 24 hours.

Only 11,059 samples have been tested during the time which means that the rate of new infection among the tested samples was 24.11 percent -- the highest in a day since the first cases were reported in Bangladesh on March 8 this year.

Prof Nasima also confirmed the death of 47 more patients from Covid19 during the period. With that, the death toll from the virus surged to 2,352. The death rate is 1.27 percent.

In the last 24 hours, 5,580 patients have recovered, increasing the recovery tally to 93,614 patients.
Prof Nasima said among the dead patients on Sunday, 36 were men and 11 women - 43 died in different hospitals and 4 died at their homes.

Of them, 23 were from Dhaka, six from Chattogram and Khulna each, four from each of Rajshahi and Sylhet, two from Barishal and Rangpur each.

As of Sunday, 1,860 men and 492 women have died from Covid-19 in the country.
The authorities placed 737 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, while 17,319 people are currently under isolation and 909 released on Sunday.
