Bangladesh, India coast guards meet held

The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) held the fourth regional and zonal commander-level meeting with the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Monday to discuss a range of bilateral issues between the two neighbours.

The meeting was held through a videoconference with BCG delegation led by Deputy Director General of Commodore M Anwar Hossain joining from the BCG West Zone headquarters in Bagerhat and representatives of the ICG high officials participating in it from its regional headquarters in Kolkata, West Bengal and the ICG headquarters, said a press release.

The meeting was held in light with the agreement signed between the BCG and ICG aimed at enhancing regional cooperation, strengthening mutual ties, exchanging training and maintaining friendly and fraternal relations between the two countries.

It also discussed on the role of both coast guards in preventing human trafficking, smuggling of drugs and illegal fishing at international borders.

Mutual cooperation on training in developing professional skills of the Coast Guard members was also discussed.

It is expected that this meeting will play an important role in curbing crimes on both country’s maritime borders and improving bilateral ties between Bangladesh and India.
