Bangladesh fail to win against Mongolia

It is another disappointing day for the Bangladesh national football team when they drew 0-0 in their FIFA friendly match against Mongolia at home ground on Tuesday.

Held at the Sylhet District Stadium, Bangladesh demonstrated better performance in the whole 90 minutes time but could rare produce scoring chances when the match was ended in goalless draw.

It was successive second draw against Mongolia, when in a World Cup Qualifying match, was held in Saudi Arabia in 2001 Bangladesh drew that one by 2-2 followed by their 3-0 win in the same competition at same venue in KSA.

However, on the day, the visitors Mongolia, who played with defensive strategy with the coach keeping five to six defenders constantly at the area, was successful to deal with the series of Bangladesh attacks.

Bangladesh did all but scoring a goal when they played almost in same fashion with attacking approach throughout the game from first whistle to last moments and went closer several times to make threats.

Bangladesh despite controlled the possession most of the game, also opened some good chance to score goals when the golden opportunity came to their ways in the last minute of the first half but Sumon Reza could not utilize that.

It was a long distance free kick from captain Jamal Bhuiyan, who superbly lofted the ball inside the box and Rakib’s header went to Sumon Reza, who was left unmarked at the danger area. But it was very disappointing when a sky-high volley of Reza from some five meters distance from goal-line went over the cross bar just seconds before to go for break.

In fact rather that the opportunity at the dying minute of the first half, there was another occasion for the hosts to take lead but Rakib wasted the half chance taking an aimless shot from the corner of the box which flew over the far post 38th minute.

After the barren first half, Bangladesh looked more aggressive to win the match and keeping the domination forced the opponents to be defensive and in spite of playing most the time at their half and going closer failed to break deadlock.

The Spanish coach Fernandez Cabrera, who began his job with the Bangladesh national team with a bitter experience after going down by 0-2 to Maldives in the first FIFA friendly in Male, was unfortunate to have the win the second match.
