Bangamata Women’s Volleyball Championship inaugurated

The logo and trophy unveiling ceremony of Bangamata Asian Senior Women’s Central Zone International Volleyball Championship-2019 was held at Hotel Westin in the city on Thursday.

This is for the first time Bangladesh Volleyball Federation is going to organise the international women’s volleyball tournament, which has been named after Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The tournament will be held from November 9 to November 14 at Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium, Mirpur in the Capital. 

Commerce Minster Tipu Munshi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the tournament, Youth and Sports Minister Zahid Ahsan Russell, Co-Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, also President of Bangladesh Volleyball Federation were present in the logo and trophy unveiling ceremony.

In his speech, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said, “This is for the first time Bangladesh Volleyball Federation will organise the international tournament named after Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib. I personally trying hard for the development of Volleyball for many years.”

He also said, “I hope, this tournament will help developing women’s volleyball in the country. We will continue this tournament in future.”

Commerce Minster Tipu Munshi said, “The incumbent government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to improve every sector of the country. The sports sector has also improved a lot. Apart from boys, now, the women of the country are participating in different international sports to uphold the image of the country.”

Mentioning various success of Bangladeshi women in sports, Youth and Sports Minister Zahid Ahsan Russell said, “A good number of women’s volleyball team will participate in the tournament from different countries of Asia. This type of international tournament will encourage our women. We want to continue this tournament every year.”
