State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam, MP, has said that the name of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman could not be deleted from the people’s mind till Bangladesh exists.

Recalling contribution of Bangabandhu to the independence of Bangladesh and democracy, he said that the people irrespective of political affiliation must follow the ideals of Bangabandhu to build ‘Sonar Bangla’.

Shahriar Alam said these while addressing two separate discussions and prize-giving ceremonies at Bagha and Charghat upazilas in Rajshahi on Thursday as the chief guest. The events were arranged to mark the National Mourning Day-2019 and 44th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Shahriar Alam said that the self-confessed fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu and his family members will not go unpunished. All the fugitive convicts will be brought back to the country and accordingly executed on this soil, he added.

He said that the whole nation under the leadership of Bangabandhu fought against enemies and brought independence of the country apart from a few anti-liberation thugs and that’s why the Bangalee nation embraced him as their closest one, affectionately decorating him with the honor of Bangabandhu.

He said that Bangabandhu’s only devotion was to achieve economic emancipation of people, build a poverty-free nation and thus establish a Sonar Bangla to bring smiles on the faces of Bangalees.

The state minister urged the new generation and the students in particular to follow the ideals of Bangabandhu to get nation-building inspiration in their life.

Earlier on Wednesday, Shahriar Alam also spoke at a public meeting to mark the inauguration of a four-storied building of Arpara Government Primary School at Bagha. Upazila Education Officer Sanwar Hossain and Arpara Government Primary School Headmaster Ayrin Parveen also addressed the meeting with school’s Managing Committee President Bellal Uddin in the chair.

The Local Government Engineering Department constructed the building at a cost of around Tk 86 lakh.

In the meeting, Shahriar Alam said that Bangladesh has seen remarkable success in various development indicators under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Now the country has become a rice-exporting country instead of an importing one, he added.

He also said the country is progressing fast in every sector, especially ICT, food production, education, women empowerment, GDP and per capita income.
