Ban imposed on vehicles

A 54-hour ban imposed by the Election Commission (EC) on the movement of all vehicles in the capital ahead of the Dhaka city election will come into effect from Thursday midnight.

For the Election Day 10 types of transport will remain banned on the roads. According to the Motor Vehicle Ordinance, the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has issued an emergency notification imposing the ban Tuesday.

The ban was imposed in an emergency notice signed by BRTA Director (Enforcement) AKM Masudur Rahman on Tuesday (January 28).The restriction will remain in effect until Sunday morning.

Movements of motorised vehicles have also been restricted for 18 hours but it will come into effect from Friday midnight in the election areas.

Dhaka’s two city corporations are going to polls on February 1.

Motorcycles and vehicles with stickers issued from the election commission, vehicles of emergency services, including ambulance, fire service and postal department, and journalist vehicles will remain out of the ban’s purview.

plying of auto-rickshaws, taxicabs, microbuses, jeeps, pickups, private cars, bus, trucks and other motor-driven vehicles will be restricted from January 31 midnight (12am) to February 1 evening (6pm).
