Bangladesh Athletic Federation (BAF) is going to make a revolution with organizing an athletics competition with the participation of record 50,00,000 athletes after the name of Sheikh Kamal, the elder son of the father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The high ups of the BAF, in a press conference on Thursday evening at the Bangabandhu National Stadium informed the reporters that they are going to organize Sheikh Kamal Inter-School and Madrasa Athletics competition 2023, first ever of its kind in Bangladesh.
General Secretary of the BAF Abdur Rokib Montu informed that their endeavor will be to accumulate almost 50,00,000 young athletes from across the country involving schools and madrasas of 500 Upazilla.
Principal secretary of Prime Minister Tofazzal Hossain Meah also the president of the BAF said that their main objective is talent hunt from the grass roots and to grow interest among the students in sports to build up as strong physic from their boyhood.
The curtain of the gigantic athletics competition will be raised today across the country when Sheikh Kamal Inter-School and Madrasa Athletics competition 2023 will organize in four levels – Union and Upazilla (14-28 January), Distirct (1-5 February), Divisional stage (09-13 February) and after finishing the initial stages the National and final stage will take place from last week of February.
Abdur Rokib Montu, general secretary of the BAF informed that the winners will qualify for the district level, district winners will move into the divisional phase when the divisional winners will qualify for the final or national stage competitions.
The participants will compete in 32 events splitting into four groups – KA and Kha Group will be for the students of Class VI and VIII, they compete in in the 100 and 200 meters sprints, high- jump, long-jump, GA and GHA Group for class IX and X, they compete in 100, 200 meters sprints, 400, 800, 1500 meters race, high-jump, long-jump, triple-jump, jablin-throw, shot-put, discus-throw and 4x 100 meters relay race.
Meanwhile, Walton Group came forward to join in the big initiative of the BAF with sponsorship for Taka seven crore.
Principal secretary of Prime Minister Tofazzal Hossain Meah, president of the BAF addressed in the press meet with Nur Uddin Chowdhury Nayan MP and Faruqul Islam, vice-presidents of the BAF, Mohiuddin Ahmed secretary of the Ministry for Youth and Sports, Deputy Managing Director of Walton, the sponsors company of the tournament, Humaun Kabir Parimol Singh, secretary of the NSC, were present in the meet.
