Badminton tourney begins marking Sheikh Moni’s birthday

A badminton tournament has begun on the occasion of the 81st birthday of Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni, founding chairman of Bangladesh Awami Jubo League.

The tournament was organised by Ward no 21 of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) at the ground adjacent to the ward councilor's office on Friday.

Bangabandhu’s nephew Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni was one of the organiser of the liberation war and the commander of Mujib Bahini. He was born on December 4 in 1939 at Tungipara in Gopalganj.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the tournament, Dhaka South Awami League President Abu Ahmed Mannafi said, “Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni is an important figure in the politics of Bangladesh. He has worked relentlessly to organise Bangladesh Chhatra League, Awami League and Juba League in hard times. Those who want to do Bangabandhu's ideological politics in this country must know about the life history of Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni.”

Ward Councilor Asaduzzaman Asad presided over the function. Among others, Shahbagh Thana Awami League President GM Atiqul Islam and General Secretary Adv MA Hamid Khan and Dhaka South Jubo League office secretary Riaz Uddin Riyad, were also spoke.

20 teams from 21 no ward of DSCC will participate in the tournament. The final match of the tournament will be held on December 16.
