Antonio Banderas is the latest star to sign onto the ‘Indiana Jones 5’ project. The Oscar-nominated actor recently closed the deal to join the highly-anticipated new movie, and will star alongside Harrison Ford, who is returning as the iconic archaeologist.

Details of Banderas' character have been kept well hidden, and there is also not much information regarding the franchise's fifth installment storyline, although we do know that the film is currently in production in the UK.

Starring alongside Banderas and Ford, the casting for Indiana Jones 5 includes Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Hannibal's Mads Mikkelsen, The Predator's Boyd Holbrook and Black Panther's Shaunette Renée Wilson.

Indiana Jones 5 is being directed by James Mangold, which is significant for the movie as Steven Spielberg usually leads the franchise's productions – although Spielberg is serving as a producer on the project.

Previously, Mangold has directed movies including ‘Walk the Line’ and Girl’, ‘Interrupted’.

The movie's release has been delayed multiple times for different reasons. At first Indiana Jones 5 had a planned release date of July 2019, which was later pushed back twice to July 2020 and then to July 2021. Now the film is expected to be released on July 29, 2022.

There was recently a first-look image of Waller-Bridge in ‘Indiana Jones 5’ – the behind-the-scenes image gives a glimpse of the actress' 60s style costume. Ford also suffered a shoulder injury while filming a fight scene on set recently, Disney confirmed, leading to 'reconfiguration' of the filming schedule for a number of weeks. Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled for release on July 29, 2022.    —Deadline
