Anti-drug drive: 2,673 held in Joypurhat in 15 months

Police in Joypurhat have arrested 2,673 people and recovered a huge quantity of drugs from different parts of the district between July 2019 and September this year.

The arrests and seizures have been made following the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s announcement on zero tolerance policy to drugs last year.

Since then, police launched special anti-drug operation to uproot drugs in the district. Police arrested 2,673 people during the districtwide drives and filed 1,801 cases against 2,845 drug peddlers.

The law enforcement also recovered of huge quantity of drugs includes; 35447 bottles of Phensidyl, 34,335 pieces of yaba pills, opium with seven plants weighing 263 Kgs, 600 liters of distilled liquor, 231 gms of heroin, two beer bottles, eight packets whiskey, 14,209 pieces ample, Indian syrup seven bottles, 76 packets of foreign wine, one bottle Jensa Syrup, three bottles of Indian wine, 2,544 pieces of Tapentadol tablet and 296 pieces of intoxication medicine.

In addition, police cracked 22 murder cases and booked the suspects as well as filed 67 cases over gambling. Joypurhat’s Superintendent of Police Mohammad Salam Kabir said police are implementing 

the zero-tolerance policy adopted 

by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led the government. 

No drug dealers will be spared and campaign against drugs will continue in order to protect the future generation of the country, SP Kabir added.
