Anita Chowdhury passes away at 90

Anita Chowdhury, wife of Samson H Chowdhury, founder chairman of the country's leading industrial conglomerate Square Group, has passed away. She died on Sunday afternoon while undergoing treatment at Square Hospital. He was 90 years old. It is known that he died due to old age.

Anita Chowdhury was known as 'Square Mata'. She is the mother of Samuel S Chowdhury, the current Chairman of Square Group, Ratna Patra, Vice Chairman of Square Farma, Tapan Chowdhury, Managing Director of Square Farma and Anjan Chowdhury, Managing Director of Square Toiletries.

Ajay Kumar Kundu, chief executive officer of Mediacom Limited, a subsidiary of Square Group said that "Square Mata" Anita Chowdhury passed away this afternoon due to old age. Earlier, in an interview given to Prothom Alo in 2020, Tapan Chowdhury, managing director of Square Pharma, said that Samson H Chowdhury, the founder of Square Group, died while undergoing treatment in Singapore on January 5, 2012. Since then mother was the command in chief of their family.

In that interview, Tapan Chowdhury also said, 'Though we don't see him every day, we talk to him at least twice a day. I go to Baridhara every Friday. Talk to mother. We all have lunch together. Despite her age, mother keeps track of everything. At noon, mother cooks and still sends food for me.

Square Group started its journey in 1958 by four friends. In the beginning was the medicine business. Although started by four friends, Square Group was originally founded by Samson H. Chowdhury.
