All set to ensure smooth Eid journey

The major three government transport organisations are all set to provide a smooth and hassle-free journey during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, to be celebrated across the country on August 12. The Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), Bangladesh Railway (BR) and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) have arranged special services targeting to smoothen the Eid journey.

During the festival, BR will operate eight pair of special trains and BIWTC will operate 22 special launches while BRTC has kept 1000 buses ready while. According to BR information, the special eight trains are Dawangonj Eid Special, Chandpur Eid Special (two pairs), Santahar Eid Special, Lalmoni Eid Special, Khulna Eid Special and Sholakia Eid Special (two pairs).

“This time the number of passenger coaches increased to 1437 which was 1410 during the last Eid-ul-Azha, on the other hand, to increase the service capacity, holiday of all trains has been cancelled. A number of 226 locomotives are ready to ensure smooth journey while all cargo trains will be stopped, three days before the Eid,” said a top BR official.

About Eid preparation, railway minister Nurul Islam Sujan recently said in every Eid, BR takes special preparations to provide smooth Eid journey. Officials and workers are continuously working to provide a hassle-free journey for the holidaymakers. On the other hand, BRTC is also ready with its more than 1,000 buses. Most of the garment workers use these BRTC buses,

BRTC has prepared the schedule of those buses considering the RMG workers who use the BRTC buses mainly to return home. Meanwhile, BIWTC is also ready to facilitate the journey to the country’s coastal region. Besides its existing launch service, it will also operate 22 additional launches on different waterways.
Generally 47 launches are operated from Sadarghat Launch Terminal every day, 210 medium and large launches would be operated during the festival. Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) deputy director Alamgir Kabir said the organisation is working to ensure that no unfit launches would be operated. He said, “We have taken all possible preparations to make a safe Eid journey.”
