Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed’s name has not been included in the Sylhet district Awami League's proposed full committee.
Through social media, the leaders and activists demanded that Imran Ahmed be given a respectable position in the Sylhet District Awami League Committee.
After the full committee of the Sylhet District Awami League was submitted to the Centre, it was published in various news outlets that many people, including Sylhet-4 MP Imran Ahmed, have been left out of the committee. After receiving this news, the leaders and workers of Awami League and allied organizations in his constituency reacted angrily.
Many wrote through social media that Imran Ahmed has been in the committee of Sylhet district Awami League since 1986. He is a six-time Member of Parliament. Under his leadership, Awami League is well organized in Jaintapur, Gowainghat and Companyganj. There is no grouping there. Most of the leaders and activists from these three upazilas are present when any meeting of Sylhet district Awami League is held but the representative Imran Ahmed is not being kept in the committee of the district Awami League.
One wrote on Facebook that Imran Ahmed has been dropped as a candidate in the Sylhet District Awami League conference. If that happens, the district leaders are disobeying the instructions of the people's leader Sheikh Hasina. Because Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has said that while forming the full committee, the opposition, i.e. those who were candidates in the conference, should also be kept in a good position.
Apart from these three upazilas, many people involved in Awami League politics in Sylhet reacted by saying that it was not right to not keep honest, clean and senior politicians like Imran Ahmed in the district Awami League committee.
