Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said the perpetrators will face action for the murder of Buet student Abrar Fahad. “You can’t just beat someone to death for having a different opinion. Whoever be the criminal, law will take its own course,” he told reporters at the secretariat.
The authorities concerned have been asked to take steps in this regard, he said. Asked about taking steps against Jubo League chairman Omar Faruk Chowdhury, the minister said there might be allegations against him but that should be proved. In a query about future plan about Jubo League, Quader said all the associate bodies of the party have been directed to hold their councils within November this year.
Jubo League counsellors will decide about their leader but the party chief is the ‘final authority’ to do that, Quader said adding that they will prioritise age this time.
Sought comments on the arrest of Swechchhasebak League president Mollah Md Abu Kausar, who is also a president of a club, Quader said, “If someone is president of a club that doesn’t mean that he is involved in casino business.” There must be proof of involvement, Quader said adding that Rashed Khan Menon is also the president of a club, now can it be said that he is involved in casino business
About BNP’s criticism over Prime Minister’s India tour, Obaidul Quader said, “If you want to get something you have to give something and there must be a give-and take-relationship. We’ve received more from India. Enclave exchange, maritime boundary are proofs of that.”
Quader also said the agreement on the Ganges River was signed during the tenure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Teesta deal will also be signed during her tenure. It is not possible to move ahead with a hostile relationship, he added.
