A Joypurhat court on Tuesday awarded death penalty to seven people for killing a woman after violating her in Akkelpur upazila.
Women and Children Repression Prevention Act Tribunal Judge ABM Mahmudul Haque pronounced the verdict after examining records and witnesses.
The condemned convicts are: Fedous Alam Sakhider, Sohel Talukder, Afzal Hossain, Mojibor Rahman, Ruhul Amin, Rahim and Azizar Rahman.
According to the case statement, the convicts picked up Aroti Rani Mahant, wife of Ujjal Mahant, from her house in Deora Asroy Kendra area around 8pm on October 8, 2016, and took her to a nearby paddy field.
Later, they gang raped the woman there one after another.
The victim's family rescued her blood-stained body from the paddy field and took her to Adamdighi Hospital where doctor declared him dead.
