In a bid to provide education facility to all and bring all children under education network, the government is going to recruit 61,166 more primary school teachers, said official sources. Currently there are 65,000 primary schools in Bangladesh where a total of 3,48,584 teachers are already employed. The same source says that nearly three crore students are enrolled for primary school education.

During the tenure of the current government (since 2009) a total of 1.69 lakh primary teachers have been recruited. This decision to recruit new primary teachers was taken at the first joint annual meeting of the fourth primary education development programme of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education at the Secretariat.

In this regard, a plan has already been sent to the Ministry of Public Administration. According to the Department of Planning and Development, Tk 10 crore has been allocated for 523 schools affected during the recent floods. In the next fiscal (2019-2020), 26,000 computers, projectors and other information communication and technology (ICT) devices will be distributed in multimedia classrooms in the schools in phases. This move is a part of the government’s plan to enhance quality of education in the primary schools.
