43 kg Vinshun statue found at Kachua

 A touchstone statue of Vishnu worth of Tk. over one crore was found while Minu, a day labourer was cutting earth of the road at village Baek of Kachua upazila in Chandpur.

A local named Saiful Islam, son of Abul Ali, collected and took the statue to his house.

Later, people informed the local police. On information, police from Kachua Sachar outpost of Kachua upazila visited the spot and recovered the statue, weighing about 43 kg.

A local Bappi Majumdar said, ‘There is a Vishnu temple in our village. Our ancestors worshipped it.  The statute was stolen about thirty years ago.’

 SI Mobarak Hossain said, ‘We got the information about the statue through the local people and rescued the statue from the house of Saiful Islam. The statue is 38 inches in length and 18 inches in width.  We shall have the statue examined by the Archaeological Department to know whether it is valuable or not. Then we shall deposit it to the government treasury.’

 Many people flocked to see the statue.

 It may be recalled that in the past a valuable Vishnu statue weighed 82 kg was found in a pond of Karish village of Kachua.
