400 cleaners receive free cancer screening

Around 400 cleaners of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Wednesday received free cancer screening at a community center at Mirpur Mazar road area under ward number 10, reports BSS.

DNCC in collaboration with Anowar Khan Modern Hospital organised a free cancer screening campaign for the cleaners of the city corporation, said a press release.

DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam inaugurated the campaign as the chief guest and urged all the cleaners to work with sincerity. Urging the cleaners to work with honesty, the Mayor said, “They keep our city clean, if they remain healthy they can put up better service.”

Atiqul said housing facilities will be provided to 784 cleaning staff by 2021 as per the direction of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Following taking oath to the premier as a DNCC mayor, she had directed me to build beautiful homes for cleaning staff.

Housing facilities will be provided for 784 cleaners by June, 2021,” he added.

He said, non government organisations can come forward to ensure the cleaners’ livelihood by fulfilling their basic needs like accommodation and health facilities. Ward councilor, Abu Taher, Councilor (reserves seat) Razia Sultana Eti and Prof Dr Mohammad Ehteshamul Haque also a radiation oncologist were present, among others.
