Detective Police (DB) arrested 4 accused in connection with the murder of auto rickshaw van peddler Abul Hossain of Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat district from Barsao area of Gobindgonj on Sunday. Police Super Mohammad Salam Kabir told reporters at a press conference in his office.
The arrestees were identified as Abu Saeed (37), son of late Abbas sarkar of Chandrahata village, Anisur Rahman (40) son of Antaj Ali of Barsao village, Soton Barman (28) son of Anil Chandra Barman and Abdul Matin (28), son of Shamsul Alam of same village.
On the evening of September 25, this year, Abul Hossain left his house with an auto rickshaw van and did not return home.
Two days later of his disappearance, police recovered the body of the van peddler from the Harabati River in Hoperhat area of Khetlal upazila of the district. Fazlur Rahman, brother of the victim, filed a murder case with Khetlal police station.
In the press briefing, Police Super Mohammad Salam Kabir PPM said that on the evening of September 25, the arrested accused took Abul Hossain to Telihar area pretending as passengers and killed him by suffocating with a sling.
After the murder, the accused stole the auto rickshaw van and sold it to a businessman named Mansur Rahman, a buyer and seller of auto-rickshaw.
Later, Detective Police (DB) arrested Mansur Rahman and recovered various parts of the auto-rickshaw van from his possession.
The four accused were arrested on the information of Mansur Rahman. Police Super said that the arrested accused would be sent to court for confessional statement.
