371.33 km new railway constructed in 10 years

Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan on Monday told the Jatiya Sangsad that a total of 371.33 kilometers new railways have been constructed and 1152.48 kilometers railways were renovated in the last 10 years since 2009, reports BSS.

“The Awami League government has taken 81 projects involving Taka 108,616.37 crore for the railways since 2009. Of them 77 projects have already been implemented,” he said while replying to a tabled question made by opposition BNP lawmaker Md. Zahidur Rahman of Thakurgaon-3 in the House.

Sujan informed the House that currently there are 2955.53 kilometers railway routes in the country. Of them 1846.09 kilometers are meter-gauge, 676.66 kilometers broad-gauge and 432.78 kilometers dual gauge, he added. In addition, a total 36 projects, including 33 investment projects and 33 technical assistance projects, have been included in the annual development programme for the fiscal 2019-20 for the railways, the minister said.
