Admission test of 32 public universities of the country will be held under cluster system for the next 2021-2022 academic year. Three new universities are going to be included this year.
This year, the newly added universities are- Kishoreganj Science and Technology University, Chandpur Science and Technology University and Habiganj Agricultural University.
Last year, the admission tests for 29 public universities were held under three clusters. The clusters are- general and science and technology, engineering and agriculture and agriculture major.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at UGC on Thursday with the Vice-Chancellors of the public universities on the upcoming admission test for the 2021-2022 academic year.
The schedule of admission test will be announced after the meeting of Bangladesh University Council today (Friday).
However, this year, if necessary, admission test centers may be set up in different colleges outside the university.
At the meeting, UGC recommended to the universities outside the cluster to expedite the admission test schedule, take admission test, publish the results and admission time, centrally place the university and subject, schedule the migration, and take the admission fee once.
In addition, the UGC recommended rationalizing the admission test fees and reducing the number of seats in departments where student enrollment is low.
At the meeting, the Vice-Chancellors called upon the Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Rajshahi University and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology to take the process forward by participating in the cluster admission test and giving advice.
They also suggested taking separate admission test under cluster for these four universities if necessary.
UGC acting chairman Afroza Begum presided over the meeting. The Vice-Chancellors of 36 universities and their nominated representatives were present during this time, among others.
