Three readymade garment (RMG) factories in city’s outskirt Savar have been closed due to fear from coronavirus outbreak.
The authorities of three RMG factories of a same company announced the closure to their factories by issuing separate notices on Monday.
The factories are Dipto Apparels Ltd, Dipto Garment Ltd and Dird Garment Ltd of Dird group. The authorities displayed the notice on the main gate of those factories. However, the authorities of those factories refused speak anything to media in this regard.
The notice stated that the factories will remain closed until further directives. The decision has been taken considering health risk of all the workers. Due to coronavirus outbreak globally, the authorities directed all workers to maintain the safety instructions to avoid coronavirus infection.
Workers of those factories said that there were around 10 thousand workers at those factories. They were now facing uncertainty due to the sudden closure of the factories.
“Even nothing is stated in the notice about workers salary”, Shabuj, a worker of Dipto Apparels Ltd expressed his concern while talking to Bangladesh Post.
Abul Kalam Azad, a supervisor of Dipto Apparels Ltd said, “The authorities will hold a meeting with us about worker salary. It will be confirmed after the meeting.”
