3 more held over Sinha murder

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Tuesday arrested three persons who were named as witnesses in a case started by police following the shooting death of retired army major Sinha Md Rashed Khan in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf.

The arrestees are -Md. Nurul Amin, Nizam Uddin and Md. Ayach.

They were arrested from the Marichbunia area of Baharchhara Union in Teknaf upzilla in the afternoon.

Major Mehedi Hasan, Deputy Commander RAB-15 (Cox's Bazar), said, “The trio has been arrested over their alleged involvement in Sinha murder case. RAB personnel produced them before the court and sought a 10-day remand for further grilling. The court hasn’t fixed any date for the hearing yet.”

Retired Army Major Sinha was shot to death by police at the Baharchhara police check post in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar, around 9:30 pm on July 31.

Sinha’s elder sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed the murder case with Teknaf Judicial Magistrate Court on August 5. Inspector Liaqat Ali of Baharchhara Police Investigation Centre and Pradeep Kumar Das former OC of Teknaf police station are among the nine policemen charged in the case.

Seven of the accused policemen were sent to jail on August 6. Three accused including Liaquat and Pradeep are now facing remand as per the court order.

Immediately after Sinha's murder, the police filed several cases against Sinha and his friends. Those three arrested yesterday (on Tuesday) are witnesses of the cases filed by police against Sinha and his associates, sources said.
