3 killed on Dhaka- Tangail highway

At least three people, including a minor girl, were killed in separate road accidents in different areas on Dhaka-Tangail highway on Friday. The accidents took place at Kaliakoir, Gorai and Kodindolya areas of the highway in the morning. 

The deceased were identified as Sufia Begum, 60, wife of Sabur Mia of Hariya village, Samia Akhter, 10, daughter of Shamim Al-Mamun of Kanchanpur village of Basil upazila and a Corporal Nazmul Hossain, 27, worked at Detective Branch of Navy's Dhaka headquarters and hailed from Atghoria area of Natore.

Police and locals said that Nazmul along with his colleague Jahangir heading towards Natore from Dhaka by a motorbike. When it reached Gorai area, the bike lost control and in the meantime, a truck ran over it, leaving Nazmul dead on the spot.

Besides, Samia along with her uncle was going to home from her grandfather’s house in Mirzapur upazila by a motorcycle around 10:30am. A bus ran over the bike in Kodimdholya bus stand area on the highway, leaving her dead on the spot and her uncle injured.

Later, injured Shaheen was admitted to Kumudini Hospital. On the other hand, Sufia along with her son Sohag was heading towards home by a motorcycle this morning. They both fell down on the street as its drive lost control over the steering. At that time, a north Bengal-bound bus ran over them, leaving Sufia dead on the spot and Suhag injured. He was taken to National Clinic in Mirzapur.

Raizul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Gorai Highway Police Station, told media that of the deceased, body of the Navy official sent to Tangail General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
