3 killed in Eskaton building fire

At least three people including a child was found dead after a fire broke out in a building at Eskaton area in the city early Thursday, reports BSS.

The fire originated from the garage of a five-storey building at Dilu Road around 4:30 am, said a control room official of the Fire Service and Civil Defense. The fire fighters so far have recovered three dead bodies-two burnt to death and other one was found dead, suffocated due to the smoke from the spot.

Our medical correspondent have confirmed a name of a deceased– AKM Rushdee, a 4-year minor child of Shahidul Islam, who along with his parents lived at the third floor of the building. But the identities of other two fire victims are yet to be confirmed. The three dead bodies have been kept at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Six people also suffered burn injuries, the official added.

A total of eight fire fighting units reached the spot and brought the fire under control later in the morning. Of the injured, one Shahidul Islam, 40 and his wife Jannatul Ferdous, 39 are now undergoing treatment at the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Other four members of the same family are also undergoing treatment in the Hospital. Private cars and two motorbikes were also found damaged due to the fire.
