3 hundi traders held with $115,000 in Jashore

Border Guard Bangladesh members detained three hundi traders of Benapole-Sharsha along with $115,000 from Khajura bus stand in Jashore town while the dollars 

were being smuggled from Benapole to Dhaka in a private car on  Friday noon.

BGB informed the journalists about the incident releasing a press note in this regard on Friday night. The seized US dollars are equivalent to Tk 1,22,56,600. BGB men seized the private car used for smuggling the money too. 

The detainees are identified as Zakir Hossain, 36, son of Abdul Bari of Gazipur village under Benapole Port Police Station, Shah Alam, 35, son of Yasin Sarkar of Putkhali Balunda village under the same police station and Masud Rana, 28, son of Abdus Salam of Ramchandrapur village under Sharsha upazila.

Jashore 49 BGB Battalion Commander Lt. Colonel Md. Selim Reza said, on intelligence information, they found out that several hundi smuggling gangs have been conducting smuggling activities on Benapole-Dhaka Road in Jashore for a long time. 

In connection to that, they detained those three hundi traders from Khajura bus stand and found 1.15 lakh US dollar searching their bodies. 

The detainees admitted during preliminary interrogation that they have been involved in hundi and gold smuggling for a long time. Strict surveillance is being carried out at the border against drugs, hundi and gold smuggling. 

The BGB official said that legal action has been taken against  the accused.
