Police arrested 23 BNP leaders and activists, including the convener of Joypurhat district unit of BNP Shamsul Haque, from the district town on Wednesday noon.
On information, a team of police conducted a raid at the office of Samsul Haque and arrested all of them when they were holding a secret meeting for committing subversive activities, said Officer-in-Charge of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station AKM Alamgir Jahan. Police also seized sharp weapons and sticks from the spot.
Besides the district BNP's convener and joint convener, the other detainees are BNP leader Anisur Rahman, Aminur Rahman Bakul, Sohel Talukder, Taz Uddin, Maodud Alam, JCD leader Reza Hassan and Rani.
