2 journos among 3 sued under Digital Security Ac

A case was filed against three people, including the editor of a local daily newspaper and its joint editor, under the Digital Security Act. Sabuj Hossain, nephew of the former MP Makbul Hossain of Gangni-2 constituency, filed the case at Gangni Police Station on Wednesday night.

Yeadul Momin, editor of ‘Daily Meherpur’ and also the district correspondent of ‘Kaler Kantho’, its joint editor Al Amin and publisher ASM Emon were among the accused.

 According to case statement, a report titled ‘house occupied by MP Makbul for 26 years’ on the daily newspaper ‘Daily Meherpur’was published on May 11.

 Editor and joint editor said the case was filed against them with the aim of harassing them and in a bid to scare the media people.

Gangni police officer in charge (OC) Obaidur Rahman said that the case was registered under the Digital Security Act of 2016 in the name of ASM Emon, publisher of Meherpur local newspaper Dainik Meherpur Pratidin, editor Yadul Momin and joint editor Al Amin.

Investigating officer of the case SI Shahabul Islam said that the investigation of the case has started. The report will be submitted to the court at the end of the investigation.

Incidentally, on May 11, the daily Meherpur Pratidin published news against former Gangni MP Maqbool for allegedly occupying a house for 26 years. The case has been filed under the Digital Security Act since the news was published.

Meanwhile, the publisher of this newspaper and politician ASM Emon has served as a member of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (Liaquat-Babu). He is a member of the Publicity and Publication Sub-Committee of Bangladesh Awami League.
