2 jaggery manufacturers fined TK 3.7 lakh for adulteration

Two molasses  manufacturers were fined Taka 3.7 lakh on charge of their involvement in adulterating the food item in the Rajshahi district on Wednesday.

A team of the Department of National Consumers Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted a sudden raid at the Arani area under Bagha Upazila and found Sekendar Ali and Dulal Uddin guilty of the charge. The team supported by RAB also seized sugar, lime, fitkari, dalda and textile colour after searching their molasses making factories.

Subsequently, the team fined Sekendar and Dulal Taka 3 lakh and 70,000 respectively.

Quoting their confessional statement BNCRP Assistant Director Hassan Al Maruf said they were involved in manufacturing molasses in unhygienic and health hazard manners. Such types of drive will be continued in the days to come to protect the public health from health hazards, he added.
