Two women were reportedly beaten to death at two upazilas in Satkhira district over dowry. The deceased were identified as Sumayia Khatun, 23, and Bilkis Khatun, 22.
Sumayia’s body was recovered from her residence with a piece of cloth wrapped around her neck at Kamannagar area of Satkhira Sadar upazila in the early hours on Friday.
Her maternal aunt Fatematujjohra claimed that Sumayia's husband used to beat her frequently over dowry. She alleged that her husband killed her last night.
An unnatural death case has been filed with Satkhira Police Station in this connection.
Mostafizur Rahman, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Satkhira Police Station confirmed the matter. The OC said that they will investigate the matter.
In Tala upazila, Bilkis was allegedly beaten and poisoned by her husband Kabir Sheikh on Thursday afternoon, alleged victim’s father Shawkat Hossain.
He alleged that Kabir beat his wife over dowry. He and his family members forcefully poured poison in her mouth. She was taken to Tala Upazila Health Complex where she was declared dead.
Mehedi Rasel, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tala Police Station, said that the body was handed over to family members after autopsy. “Nothing can be said for certain until the report comes out, ” he said.
