A Dhaka court on Wednesday sentenced two people to life imprisonment in a case lodged over murder of Sri Lankan citizen Suhara Umma in the capital in 2004, reports BSS.

Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 passed the order, sentencing Mofiz Uddin Sarker alias Mofiz and Abu Zaher alias Zaher Khan to life imprisonment and fined them Taka 30,000 each.

The court also acquitted another accused Abul Hossain as the charges framed against his were not proved. According to the case documents, Bangladeshi expatriate Jahirul Islam married Sri Lankan citizen Suhara Umma in Kuwait and they started living in Shaympur, Dhaka with their son. On January 27, 2004, Jahirul’s tenant Abul Hossain’s brother-in-law Mofiz and his friend Zaher broke into Umma’s flat and strangled her to death.
