2 days to nab Rifat’s murderers: SP

Criminals accused of murdering Rifat Sharif in Barguna will be arrested within two days.

Barguna Superintendent of Police (SP) Maruf Hossain said this while talking to journalists at his office on Saturday.

Rifat Sharif, 22, an internet service provider and son of Halim Dulal, of Sadar upazila, was attacked and hacked to death in broad daylight by some miscreants in front of his wife in the district town of Barguna on Wednesday. The SP said, “It will may take only two days to bring all the accused persons before the court. Law enforcers are working relentlessly in this case. The prime accused will not be able to skip us. All the escape routes have been closed. Red Alert has already been issued at airports, land ports” Check posts have been set up at different points in the town to arrest the criminals. Several teams of Police and Rapid Action Battalion are trying to arrest the criminals, he added.

So far three people have been arrested in the Rifat murder case. In the meantime, they were remanded for interrogation on Friday.

Dulal Sharif, the father of Rifat, filed a case against 12 people on Thursday. Police arrested a suspect, Chandan, from the town the next morning.

Following the gory attack, Rifat was admitted to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (Sheba) in the afternoon, where the on duty doctors declared him dead at around 4pm.

According to witnesses, three people stabbed Rifat around 10am with sharp weapons. Video of serious injuries to Rifat Sharif on social media has created a storm of criticism across the country.
