2-day int’l clean tech fair begins in city

A two-day ‘International Clean Technology Fair’ began in the capital on Wednesday to explore potential market for the technology suppliers with a scope of establishing new partnerships. Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and Chairman of Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), Helal Uddin inaugurated the fair at the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in the capital’s Kakrail area.
While speaking as the chief guest, Helal Uddin said the government is formulating business friendly policies to expedite sustainable technology.

“We have to use cleaner sustainable technology in a planned manner. Through energy efficient technology, renewable energy, industrial waste management, metal industry process management, metering and data management cost of production can be reduced in industries,” he added. He urged the entrepreneurs to invest for innovative technology. SREDA has arranged low interest loans to set up energy, skilled machinery, industries and factories, he noted.

The SREDA chairman went on saying if anyone wants to know any information regarding energy efficiency and conservation, they are requested to contact the SREDA without hesitation. SREDA Member (Additional Secretary) Siddique Zobair, DCCI Senior Vice President Waqar Ahmad Choudhury and Vice President Imran Ahmed were also present at the opening session of the event.

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and METABUILD, a project of DCCI funded by European Union, organized the event. Waqar Ahmad Choudhury said METABUILD project is working in 250 metal and steel industries to motivate them to use resource efficient cleaner production utilizing energy efficiency. “Objective of this project is to reduce waste emission and increase resource efficiency in metal component SMEs from the building and construction sector,” he added.

He went on saying, “If we are able to ensure energy efficiency in our industries, 25 percent of the existing consumption can be saved.” The fair is hosting around 70 exhibitors from Bangladesh and India to interact with about 300 METABUILD partner companies as well as other industries. The fair is remaining open for all from 10.00 am to 7.00 pm.
