2-day civil engineering reunion begins at RUET

A two-day reunion function of the Department of Civil Engineering (CE) in Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) began at its campus here on Thursday with joy and fanfare, reports BSS.

Established in 1965, the department is hosting the programme for all its old and present students for the first time in its long 55-year history. More than 2,000 graduates and present students are taking part in the celebration. Main features of the celebration are: opening rally, discussion, reminiscence, interaction between the old and new students and cultural programme.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and RUET Vice-chancellor-in-charge Prof Iqbal Matin addressed the inaugural discussion as chief and special guests respectively with CE Departmental Head Prof Muhammad Kamruzzaman in the chair. Registrar-in-charge Dr Selim Hossain, Chairman of Khulna WASA Engineer Muhammad Nuruzzaman, Dean of Engineering Faculty Prof Kamruzzaman Sarker and Students Welfare Director Dr Rabiul Awal also spoke on the occasion. 

In his remarks, Mayor Liton said the role of civil engineers is very vital towards the infrastructural development works sustainable as a large amount of the national budget was earmarked every year to implement the physical infrastructural development projects to ensure better lives of the citizens of the country. Transparency and accountability during the project implementation period must be ensured so that the people can derive total benefits of the projects, he added.
