2 arrested drug traders killed in Cox’s Bazar gunfight

Two listed Yaba traffickers, who were detained by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Friday, were killed in a reported gunfight with police at Rangikhali area under Hunila union at Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar early on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Noor Alam alias Noor Hafez 32, son of Yaba dealer Yar Mohammad and a top listed criminal and named on the home ministry list, and Mohammad Sohel, 27, son of Sabbir Ahmed. 

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, confirmed the matter. 

Noor Hafez is the second in command of Rohingya citizen Abdul Hakim robber. Abdul Hakim has been doing yaba business in Bangladesh through Noor Hafez. Noor Hafez has been involved in the Yaba business and terrorist activities for a long time. 

The RAB personnel arrested the duo and two others with eight lakh pieces of Yaba pills, six firearms and ammunition from Rangikhali area early on Friday. Later, the RAB officials handed the arrestees to police and also lodged a case against them.

After primary interrogation, police found they still a stash of yaba pills and weapons hidden at a hill of that area. Therefore, a police team led by SI Mashiur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, conducted a drive there taking Noor Hafez and Sohel along with them.

Police claimed that they recovered 95 thousand pieces of Yaba, six local LG riffles, 18 round of active cartridges and 13 round of cartridge shells from the spot after the gunfight.
