15 houses, shops vandalized in Jhenidah villagers’ clash

Police opened six rounds of blank shots to disperse the angry villagers of two factional groups of the ruling Awami League on Thursday morning. At least 15 houses and business establishments were vandalized during the clash continued for about two hours. The clash originated following dominating supremacy at Hatgoplapur Bazer in Jhenidah.

Jhenidah police station officer in charge (OC) Mijanur Rahman Khan said there was a long time enmity between the incumbent chairman of Padmaker union parishad Syed Nizamul Gani Liton and ex chairman Bikash Chandra Biswas.

The groups had been engaged in clash frequently even following a trifling matter. Very recently they were preparing to face each other with lethal weapons like Dhal, Falla, Ramda, Sarli, Ballam, bamboo stick etc. to take the occupation of Hatgpoalpur bus counter.

On Thursday morning both the groups equipped with arms engaged in fierce clash at Hatgoplapur Bazer. At least 15 houses and business establishments of the clashers were vandalized by each other.

As the situation went beyond the capacity, additional police men from Jhenidah Sadar rushed spot and brought the situation under control opening six blank shots. NO one was injured there, OC said.

The police was preparing to file a case. No one was arrested in this connection, OC said.
