140 policemen leave for UN mission in Mali

A total of 140 members of Bangladesh Police left Dhaka for Bamako, the capital of West African country Mali on Sunday night.

They left on a special flight of Bangladesh Biman to join the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), Mir Sohel Rana, Assistant Inspector General of Bangladesh Police, said on Monday.

Among them, Deputy Commander Maruf Abdullah, who is an Additional Superintendent of Police, led Bangladesh Formed Police Unit (BANFPU-1) which has 70 members of the second batch of the seventh rotation.

 The second commander of the BANFPU-III’s third rotation, led by Deputy Commander Md Saifuzzaman, also an Additional Superintendent of Police, has 70 members.

Additional IG (HRM) of Police Headquarters Md. Mazharul Islam, DIG (Media and Planning) Md. Tawfiq Mahbub Chowdhury and UN Affairs Operations Wing officials bid farewell to the missionary police personnel at the airport.

Earlier on December 4, another 140 members of both the units went to the mission area. They are currently on duty at the end of the scheduled quarantine.

Since 2013, Bangladesh Police has been enhancing the image of the country in the global arena by performing its duties with professionalism in Bamako.
