129 executive magistrates during city polls

A total of 129 executive magistrates will be deployed in capital Dhaka to check crimes and avoid untoward incidents centring the elections of its two city corporations on February 1.

Government official sources said, the Ministry of Public Administration has decided to deploy those 129 admin cadres as executive magistrates with a view to checking crimes and avoid untoward situation during the forthcoming elections in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a circular in this regard stating, “The magistrates will run mobile courts for the period between January 30 and February 2 to maintain law and order in the electoral areas.

The magistrates are asked to join under Dhaka district magistrate on January 29. The district magistrate of Dhaka will distribute the duties among them as per requirement, it added.

Executive Magistrates have been asked to attend an election briefing at Shilpakala Academy on January 30 at 3 pm. Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka will be present at the briefing.

This time, there will be 1,318 polling centres for 30.9 lakh enlisted voters in DNCC while 6,589 polling booths at 1,150 polling centers with 24.52 lakh enlisted voters in DSCC.

The election will be held at two mayoral posts of the DSCC and DSCC and 172 of their Ward Councillor posts. 

In the elections, seven candidates are contesting for DSCC Mayoral post and six for the DNCC Mayoral posts.
