11 JU students suspended for ragging

The Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities expelled 11 of the students, including three female students, for one year each on charges of their involvement with ragging on other junior students. Although the decision was taken at a meeting held on December 19 last year, it was disclosed through an office order on Thursday.

According to the office order published by the administration, those expelled students are Harun-or-Rashid and Muhammad Mahabubul Alam of Shaheed Salam-Barkat Hall, Enamul Huq Tamim of Bishwa Kabi Rabindra Nath Thagore Hall, Md. Raisul Islam Raju, Tawosif Abdullah, Salanga Rema, Zakir Hossain Jibon and Md. Mahbubul Alam of Moulana Bhashani Hall and Sara Binte Salah, Sayma Lima and Fabiha Binte Huq of Begum Khaleda Zia Hall.

Sources concerned said, all those 11 students of the 2nd year in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies (47th batch) have been expelled in connection with their involvement in the ragging on the 1st students of the same department at night on April 15 last year. 

In the name of ragging, some of the first year students were assaulted by those second year students at the playground of the university. On information, University Proctor (Acting) ASM Firoz-ul-Hassan rushed to the spot and also recorded verbal allegations from the victim students.
