10 projects sail thru Ecnec

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) has approved 10 projects involving Tk 11,901.33 crore.

The approval came from the Ecnec meeting, held with Ecnec Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister joined the meeting from Gonobhaban through video conferencing while some other Ministers and State Ministers also attended with Planning Commission members and secretaries concerned in attendance at the NEC Conference Room in the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

 “We placed 10 projects at the meeting today and all the projects were approved,” Planning Minister, MA Mannan said at a virtual press briefing after the Ecnec meeting.

The total cost of the projects is Tk 11,901.33 crore. Of them, Tk 8,991.44 crore will be borne from the government’s fund, Tk 99.91 crore from foreign loan while the remaining Tk 809.98 crore from the funds of the organisations concerned, the minister said.

Of the projects, nine are new and one is a revised project

The revised project is “Establishment of Super Specialized Hospital under Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University”.

The amendment increased both the duration and cost of the project. The original cost of the project was Tk 1,361.34 crore. In the first amendment, the expenditure has been increased by Tk 194.65 crore to Tk 1,561.18 crore.

The project was supposed to be completed in the period from January 2016 to December 2019. In the amendment, the duration of the project has been extended till June 2022.

The new project of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications titled “Establishment of Telecommunication Networks in Economic Zones (Phase I)” involving Tk 95.12 crore has been approved.

The project will be implemented from January 2021 to June 2023.

The Department of Road Transport and Highways project titled “Construction of Panguchi Bridge over Panguchi River at the 16th km of Signboard-Morelganj-Rayenda-Sharankhola-Bugi Road (R-63)” will cost Tk 912.33 crore. It will be implemented from February 2021 to June 2025.

The project of “Sheikh Russell Mini Stadium (Phase II) at the upazila level” of the Ministry of Youth and Sports will be implemented at a cost of Tk 1,649.33 crore. It will be implemented from July 2021 to June 2025.

The project “Construction of Multi-storey Building for Public Library Department” will be implemented at a cost of Tk 524.25 crore under the Ministry of Culture. It will be implemented from May 2021 to June 2024.

The project of local government department titled “Road development from Karigar Para in Rangamati district to Bilaichhari and construction of bridge or culvert” will be implemented at a cost of Tk 338.54 crore. It will be implemented from January 2021 to June 2024.

The Local Government Department's project titled “Important Rural Infrastructure Development in Cumilla, Brahmanbaria and Chandpur districts” will be implemented at a cost of Tk 2,500 crore. It will be implemented from January 2021 to June 2025.

The project of the Ministry of Water Resources titled “Flood control, drainage and irrigation project in Patiya upazila of Chattogram district” will be implemented at a cost of Tk 1,158.36 crore. It will be implemented from February 2021 to June 2024.

The project titled “Rehabilitation and Expansion of Command Area of Teesta Irrigation” of the Ministry of Water Resources will be implemented at a cost of Taka 1,452.33 crore. It will be implemented from January 2021 to June 2024.

The power department's project titled “Modernization and Capacity Building of Power Distribution System (Khulna Division)” will be implemented at a cost of Tk 3,076.22 crore. It will be implemented from July 2021 to June 2025.
