As part of the government’s aim to revitalise the rural economy through industrialisation, three separate industrial parks are all set to be open today under the supervision of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC)
The parks are BSCIC Industrial Park, Sirajganj, the much talked about Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) industrial Park at Gazaria, Munshiganj and Tannery Industrial Park in Savar.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the industrial parks through videoconferencing from her office at 12 pm. BSCIC Industrial Park, Sirajganj is considered to be the largest park under BSCIC, being established on 400 acres of land area spending Tk 628 crore 10 lakh.
A total of 820 industrial plots in this park will be allocated among the local and foreign entrepreneurs and industrialists where 570 export oriented and import substitute and also indigenous industrial units will be set up.
BSCIC Industrial Park, Sirajganj will create employment opportunity for more than one lakh while Sirajganj will turn into an industry-enriched District through this initiative.
The API Industrial Park, the first ever of its kind in the country, is being established on 200 acres of land. This park will create employment opportunity for more than 25,000 people. The medicine or Pharmaceutical products manufactured here will be exported abroad after mitigating the local demand cent percent.
The project cost of API Industrial Park is Tk 381 crore. The government took the initiative to set up this park early in 2008 aiming to attain self-sufficiency in supplying raw-material in the country’s most promising pharmaceutical industry.
The Industrial Park-Sirajganj project will be implemented by the BSCIC under the supervision of the ministry of Industry.
