Sharif Shahab Uddin, Editor-in-Chief of Daily Bangladesh Post, has said that the Election Commission (EC), all the political parties and people from all walks of life need to work together for acceptable and inclusive elections.
The lack of confidence among the political parties must be shunned. Therefore, it is very essential to bring back the trust, he added.
Speaking at a debate competition at a ‘Shadow Parliament’ as the chief guest, the senior journalist hoped that all the political parties will come forward to assist the EC to ensure a free, fair and credible election slated for December 30.
He urged all to forge national unity in the interest of the country.
Debate for Democracy and ATN Bangla jointly arranged the event on the upcoming parliamentary elections under the title ‘UCB Public Parliament’ at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC) in the capital recently.
In the post-election shadow parliament, Bangladesh University won the competition defeating Jagannath University.
Chairman of Debate for Democracy Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron moderated the debate competition as speaker of the shadow parliament.
In his speech, Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron said that the EC should fix its plan keeping the level playing field in the elections for all the political parties. He called for stopping the use of black money and muscle power in upcoming 11th parliamentary elections.
After the debate, crests and certificates were handed over to the competitors. The members of the winner team are Abir Kalam Azad, Azizul Haque and Md Meraj Hossain.
Prof Abu Mohammad Rais, Irin Bashar Rifat, Dr SM Murshed, freelance journalist Jahid Rahman and joint director of CDP Abhra Bhattyacharjya were the jury board members.
