A two-day music festival titled ‘Pandit Barin Mazumder Sangeet Utshob-2019’ will be held at Government Music College in Agargaon on 14 and 15 February.
The event will be organized on the premises of the college in collaboration with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy to mark the anniversary of birth of Pandit Barin Mazumder, one of the prominent musicians of the sub-continent.
The college authorities announced the programme at a press conference at BSA seminar room in the academy’s theater gallery on Tuesday.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni will be present at the event as the chief guest with Al Haj Sadek Hossain Khokon, MP; Md Soharab Hossain, senior secretary of Primary and Secondary Education Division and Professor Dr Syed Golam Farukh, director general of Primary and Secondary Education Division as special guests.
The keynote speeches will be delivered by journalist and culturalist Kamal Lohani and musician Partha Majumder.
The programme will be chaired by Professor Krishti Hefaz, principal, Government Music College.
It is mentionable that Government Music College is one of Bangladesh’s renowned and established music institutions. The college was established in 1963 under the supervision of the Pandit Barin Mazumder. In the beginning, the college was referred to as ‘College of Music’. Later the institution was nationalized and renamed as Government Music College with a permanent campus at Agargaon in the capital.
