Nomination papers of at least 12 candidates, including BNP candidate Amannullah Aman, have been rejected as the Election Commission started scrutiny of the documents today morning.
The returning officer for Dhaka-2 constituency cancelled Aman’s nomination papers as the BNP leader was convicted in a corruption case, report local TV channels.
Meanwhile, the returning officer for Rajshahi-1 cancelled nomination papers of eight candidates including former BNP minister Barrister Aminul Haque, reports our Rajshahi correspondent.
Returning officer rejected nomination paper of Golam Maula Roni, BNP aspirant for Patuakhali-3 (Galachipa, Dashmina), as he didn’t put his signature on his affidavit, Md Matiul Islam Chowdhury, Patuakhali RO declared the reject decision at noon while scrutinising nomination paper at his office, reports our Patuakhali correspondent.
Other candidates whose nominations have so far been cancelled are — Reza Kibria, son of slain former AL Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria for Habiganj- 2 constituency, Dhaka mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka’s son Ishrak Hossain, Dr Imran H Sarker for Kurigram-4-constituency and popular music video model and actor Hero Alam for Bogra-4 constituency.
Some 3095 candidates from different political parties, including Awami League-led-grand alliance and BNP-led-Jatiya Oikyafront, had submitted nomination papers to contest the 11th national election scheduled to be held on December 30.
